Season of Fire started after Harvest broke up. Dave and Roman played together in a band called Krakatoa previously. Kevin was writing songs with them. I played with Kevin in Affinity previously. I think Season of Fire was a reference to a lyric in a Harvest song.
It was probably like 2000ish that I joined. Steve 1% was playing drums at the time. He played drums on the demo. He left to focus on his other band Bodies Lay Broken. The other Adam then joined to drum. I don’t really know how we got hooked up with him. I didn’t know him before playing with him.
The demo was recorded at Gark Studio in South Minneapolis by Dave Pinsky. Its the same studio that Harvest recorded at. I played my Electra guitar. Kevin played an Ibanez. We both had 5150s. We actually both had the same Ibanez guitar, just in different colors, but Dave wanted me to use the Electra so we didn’t sound exactly the same. I think Carl Skildum was there too.
Our singer Dave same into an sm5 mic. These mics are ridiculous looking. The were originally used for radio broadcast. They are HUGE! I think the studio had just purchased a digital system. It was some type of an early Mackie system. There was still some type of console, but I don’t know what it was. We dubbed the recording onto tapes. Dave was obsessed with Office Space so that was the theme. This recording of The Dare is what ended up on the No Hold Back… All Attack!!! comp.
Torture Inhibition was also recorded at Gark. Dave didn’t do the session because he was doing sound at Ozzfest. I don’t remember the name of the engineer and I can’t find his name on the interwebs. If I recall correctly, when he agreed to do the session he didn’t know Gark was a digital studio and was a little frustrated by the computer. It ended up sounding great though. I have no idea what guitars we played on this, but Kevin and I were both using 5150s still.
I think we had decided to break up before we made this recording so we did it on the cheap. My friend Dusty had a 8 track reel to reel. We paid him $300. He was going to school for audio engineering at the time. It was recorded in the basement of the House of Knives. There was a huge basement with stage where there used to be shows.
